Wrotham was one of the manors owned by the archbishops before the Norman Conquest. In the thirteenth century they used it as a 'staging post' between Lambeth and Canterbury,
though its proximity to Otford made it redundant by the mid-fourteenth century when it was
demolished by Archbishop Islip. It's materials were then taken to Maidstone and used in the
construction of the Manor there. |
